Cape Town, also known as Kaapstad or iKapa, is the second most populated city in South Africa, and located on the shores of Table Bay, is the provincial capital for the Western Cape.

Cape Town was originally developed by the Dutch East India Company as a station for ships sailing to other parts of Africa, India, and the Far East for trade purposes. Jan van Riebeeck's arrival on 6 April 1652 established Cape Town as the first permanent European settlement in South Africa.
Since this time, Cape Town has become an economic and cultural hub of South Africa.
